I filed a lawsuit WRT (with regard to) a Honolulu resident who applied for and was issued a license plate that read “FCKBLM”. A few months later the county reversed its decision and told him the plate was recalled and he needed to return it and they won’t let him renew his vehicle’s registration. In the year since the media has gone nuts and now the county wants to take “legal action” against him. The lawsuit alleges that the personalized license plate program, that allows people to choose any combination of letters and numbers, up to 6 characters, to convey their own personal message, provided the message isn’t “publicly objectionable”, especially, while there is no definition of “publicly objectionable”, violates the First Amendment.
